Electronic Smoking in Pubs Slowly Catching On
Written by admin on February 6, 2009 – 9:04 am -When I first ordered some samples of electronic smoking devices, I needed someone to test in a bar. I have to be honest – I’ve been a bit chicken about doing it myself – but knew someone who’d be up to the challenge.
My friend Phil is a regular cigar smoker, and I knew he’d be interested in the electric cigar. I sent him off to try it. Yes, he got a couple of strange looks initially, but then it was just business as usual. I was delighted that he had successfully vaped and no complaints were submitted.
Recently I came across an article here which had this bit to say:
A PUB landlord has turned to technology in an innovative attempt to beat the smoking ban.
Rising Sun boss Carl Wright, 40, has started selling electronic cigarettes at the Reculver Road pub after customers moaned about smoking outside in the wet and cold.
I began to recall all the places I visited in the past which had courtesy cigarette vending machines which now were still there but located at the front so smokers could purchase a pack and go right outside with it. Many pub owners went out of their way to do what they could but were inflicted with fines if they allowed patrons to continue to smoke indoors.
The smoking bans did have a major effect on some places. And when it didn’t, the outside cleanup became a whole new issue.
I used to work in a restaurant that while it was being built had invested thousands of dollars for special ventilation to be installed in the bar area – just for the convenience of the smokers. Within 2 years they were also told they could not allow smoking inside despite their efforts to keep everything separated.
I would like to see these places offer the option of e-smoking to their patrons. Perhaps vending machines selling refill cartridges – and atomizers could be offered – which could promote the establishment. Printing the bars logo on them can replace the free advertising they used to give away on matchbooks.
I think Carl Wright is on the right track.
Electronic cigarettes are so inoffensive. Perhaps these types of new offerings can be an additional step to helping revive the late night scene and give our currently sad economy just one more little boost.
